While the style of a rug can determine the style of a room, make sure you’ve thought through the big picture.You want the rug to support your design vision for the room, not be at cross-purposes with it.

Rugs add another layer of comfort and interest to any room as well as provide the anchor to the color scheme and style of your room. If your budget won’t allow an antique Oriental or Aubusson (as my friend Jack would say, “Don’t despair, it’s a crowded bus.”) your design vision needn’t implode. The selection of various type and styles of flat woven wool or cotton rugs from around the world as well as down home Americana will lift your spirits with inspiration.

You can’t make an intelligent selection if you don’t know the choices. Furthermore, even if a the type of rug you really love is out of your price range, it’s smart to know the reasons why the cost is higher.
You may be able to get some of the same “extras” in the rug you eventually select if you know what to look for.
